Brief Concept Venues secured a long-term lease from Soho Estates for the conversion of office accommodation into a prestigious boutique hotel and rooftop spa.
Maleon were instructed to carry out the detailed design of all mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering services for the Sanctum Soho Hotel and its associated restaurant. As the building is partially Grade II listed there were challenges in the brief to minimise service spaces to achieve maximum occupancy.
Solution Flexible services design and close working with the architect and interior designer enabled us to design energy efficient and easily maintained engineering services throughout the property. Services were designed into restricted service space to support the vision for a design-led hotel with 30 themed bedrooms.
Maleon also provided full services design for the stunning art deco style 60 cover restaurant and all associated kitchen and food preparation areas.
Outcome The development was the subject of a BBC One three part television mini-series and was awarded Hotel of the Year in the 2010 London Lifestyle Awards.
During the project the electrical supply authority sought to install a new sub-station on site which would have jeopardised the entire project. Maleon interrogated the local electrical supply network and undertook successful negotiations with the authority to negate the need for a new sub-station.
